So a couple weeks ago I had the opportunity to do a photoshoot with three beautiful models thanks to one of our regulars, Ms. Louisa Moje of La Passion Voutee. It was the first time since my bridal shoot in January that I was able to work with more than one model and I was excited to do so. As many photographers would probably agree, one subject is not too difficult but as you add m... Continue reading
All the learning and shooting is going somewhere...these are the words I continue to tell myself as I continue down the road of photography. Recently, I dipped my toe into the waters of "professional" photography and was met by a fact that I was not expecting. Most paid photographers are in that position because of their network of friends. Word of mouth is king in a small tow... Continue reading
Recently I had the privileged of working with Howard Benson of Alaska Film Images and the beautiful Louisa Moje of La Passion Voutee. Howard uses film cameras to capture images that bring you back to a time that most have long forgotten. Having to calculate shutter times and dial in focusing is an art form that many no longer do now that DSLR's do much of it seamlessly. For ex... Continue reading
So it has been almost a month since my last post and for that I apologize. As some of you but maybe not all of you know, I suffer from a few disabilities. The worst of these disabilities is chronic migraines. Now for those of you that think that a migraine is just a bad headache let me help you understand how that is a huge underestimate of what a migraine truly is.... Continue reading
SNH was started in May of 2016 and at the end of May this year I went to Seward, AK for the wedding of two good friends. While there I was able to connect with Kristin, the model that I did my very first shoot with. Before her I had only shot my family and objects laying around the house as I learned photography from YouTube videos and other online sources. We shot on the beac... Continue reading
So last weekend I went out to Chena Lakes with the beautiful Jayelle. The background at Chena Lakes is a amazing and I really wanted to showcase it so...high speed sync. I have done HSS before but never on a shoot so I was fairly nervous trying it out. So I pulled my speedlight out of the bag and started shooting, hoping that the little speedlight would be strong enough to do... Continue reading
So this past week has been extremely busy on the photography front. A studio shoot with the beautiful Hayley Clavette started the week on Saturday. Working back in the studio gave me a chance to experiment with different lighting setups with the big studio lights and then using the Rotolight to create a hair-light on Hayley. The images speak for themselves but I have to give a... Continue reading
This past Saturday I had the privilege of working with Ms. Lakesha Jordan a Empowerment Specialist and owner of Empower Empire. The shoot was a blast and her energy is infectious. It was nice to get indoors and shoot in my studio once again, especially when outside is a mess. For those of you that do not know this, Alaska is in the break-up season. During the breakup sea... I have only been in this game for a short time, always watching, and always learning. I have noted a few things that many "professional" photographers do that I cannot bring myself to do. The worst of these is the blown out look. Go on instagram or for that matter use an instagram filter and you get this hazy bright look that all of the photographers are using. While I u... Living with disabilities is a daily struggle, especially when you refuse to give up. They are like the trainer that keeps hitting you every time you do something. Go for a walk...deal with throbbing ankles and knees. Carry in groceries...shoulder and back throw a fit. Do anything...migraine hits me in the head repeatedly. The biggest place where t... A few days ago I was able to visit the ice-park a second time this year to work with the beautiful Jayelle. We first worked during the day with natural light and then I broke out a Rotolight to shoot that evening. Once we went into the trees it made it easy to catch nice even lighting. The lighting on the ice sculptures gave amazing backgrounds.
One of the amazing things about living in Fairbanks, Alaska is every year we have the World Ice Art Championship where some of the greatest sculptures in the world come to show us how to shape ice. This year was no exception. Fairytale characters, realistic and abstract art, and even the state of Alaska are all carved into the frozen medium. Every year I think there is no way... My name is Michael Lowe and I enjoy finding potential and beauty in everything. I am truly a glass half full kind of person. This is especially true in my own life. In 2003, I joined the US Air Force and served honorably for six years. After my time serving I found myself disa... Continue reading
